LMIA-Exempt Work Permit
The Owner Operator LMIA, also known as LMIA-Exempt Work Permit, is a type of work permit that is meant for business owners or investors who wish to work in Canada. This work permit allows the holder to establish and manage their own business in Canada, as well as work in that business.
Eligibility Criteria:
To be eligible for the Owner Operator LMIA, the applicant must meet the following criteria:
- The applicant must own at least one-third of the business they wish to establish in Canada.
- The business must have been established and be actively operating for at least one year prior to the application for the LMIA.
- The applicant must have experience in managing and operating a similar business.
- The business must be able to generate significant economic benefits for Canada and create jobs for Canadian citizens or permanent residents.
Personal Requirements:
In addition to the above criteria, the applicant must also meet the following personal requirements:
- The applicant must be in good health and pass a medical examination if required.
- The applicant must have a clean criminal record and pass a background check.
- The applicant must have sufficient financial resources to support themselves and their dependants while in Canada.
Business Specific Requirements:
For the business to be eligible for the Owner Operator LMIA, it must meet the following requirements:
- The business must be in compliance with all Canadian laws and regulations.
- The business must generate significant economic benefits for Canada and create jobs for Canadian citizens or permanent residents.
- The business must be capable of becoming economically established in Canada within two years of the applicant's arrival.
