Visit Visa
Temporary Resident Visa (TRV)
In Canada, a Visit Visa, also known as a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV), is required for individuals who are not Canadian citizens or permanent residents and wish to visit the country temporarily for purposes such as tourism, visiting family, or conducting business. An Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) is a different type of travel document that is required for visa-exempt foreign nationals who plan to fly to or transit through Canada.
To be eligible for a TRV, individuals must demonstrate that they have strong ties to their home country, have enough funds to support themselves while in Canada, and pose no risk to Canadian security or public health.
To apply for a TRV, individuals must complete an online application form and provide supporting documents such as a passport, travel itinerary, and financial statements. Processing times for TRV applications vary, so it’s important to apply well in advance of your planned trip.
To apply for an eTA, individuals can complete the application process online and receive a decision in minutes. The eTA is linked to the passport used for travel and is valid for up to five years or until the passport expires, whichever comes first.
It’s important to note that even with a TRV or eTA, individuals may still be subject to additional screening at the Canadian border.
